This Atlanta based performance artist, poet, singer, novelist and community leader pioneered her way through many obstacles which have earned her merit as a writer, spoken word artist and women’s health advocate. Through her talents, she manages to deliver her message in a way that is sure to please any listening ear in the audience. At the age of 21, Catherine was diagnosed with HPV (Human Papillomavirus) which led to cervical cancer. Months later, after the birth of her daughter, Catherine underwent a partial hysterectomy and was told that her chances of having any more children were minimal. While battling cancer, she began treatment at a neighboring hospital, while working on her degree and raising her daughter. Refusing to let cervical cancer win, Catherine began to educate herself with the "very little" known information on HPV. Despite the doubts of her doctors, this courageous woman went on to have another child, and lets other cervical cancer survivors know that there is an extraordinary life after cancer. |
| As an 11 year survivor of cervical cancer, Catherine has made it her life’s mission to spread the word of how important HPV/Cervical Cancer testing is among young women. Catherine is not new to survival of the fittest; she has survived numerous hardships ranging from cervical cancer to divorce and single parenthood. She admits "I never saw it coming", but now she has been granted a new perspective on a healthy life and is dedicated to making sure every woman has a HPV test. Her message is: "The good news is that cervical cancer is preventable and curable if it is detected early." | |
