After my best friend Heather passed away from cervical cancer
at age 28, a devastating event that I wrote about for Jane magazine (ihatetumors.org/jane2006.html), I heard about a study that said less than half of American women had even heard of HPV
, the super-common virus
that causes cervical cancer.
I was upset—and started searching for more ways to spread the word about how to prevent this disease. Then I met Tamika, a one-woman knowledge-, resource-, and love-disseminating phenomenon. Her core belief that no woman should share her—or Heather’s—fate guides her actions. It’s why I’ll follow her wherever she leads. I’m honored to work with her and be counted one of her “& Friends.”
