Sandra Mae Smith 1939 - 2009

I lost my mother in January of 2009 to cervical cancer. My mother was my best friend and I miss her so much sometimes it is hard to describe. She was diagnosed with Stage 4 cervical cancer in January of 2008. She fought it bravely for 11 months until finally she couldn't fight it any longer. I want to say to all of you ladies out there that my mother surely would not have lost her life if she'd had regular Pap tests. She was afraid to go to the Dr. I think she knew something was seriously wrong with her long before she went, but was too afraid to go. So I really want to encourage all of you to go and get tested regularly. I know I am. My mother was the kind of person who didn't know a stranger. She was friends to everyone. When I used to go to the store with her I can't count the number of times she would stop and give people hugs and words of encouragement. She was my rock. I could talk to her about anything and she always seemed to make me feel better. I love and miss her more than words can say. Rest in Peace Mom. Love Debbie
