Family & Friends Tribute to Tia

Tia is not a survivor, But her struggle reached a lot of people. In August of 2007 Tia was diagnosed with Stage IV advanced cervical cancer at the age of 27. For years Tia had been told she had fibroid tumors, but we now know this was not the case. After many tests were run her diagnosis determined the cancer had already metastasized to her left hip bone and lungs.

Tia never wanted to know anything about the cancer that had invaded her body, she stated knowing she had cancer was all that she needed to know. She told the doctors "just tell eveything to my mother". Tia began radiation treatment on her left hip first then followed that with rounds of chemotherapy. Over the next several months Tia fought with the strength of a lion and the grace of a queen until she was healed in heaven on September 25, 2008.

Even in her last months and days Tia's focus was on everyone else, not herself as she often petitioned family, friends and nurses to get the HPV Vaccine and to go see their doctors for testing. What Tia wanted was to turn her tragedy into triumph, not defeat. She did not want another young woman to suffer her fate.
