Tanhea
I met Tamika summer of 1997, not too long after she moved to Maryland. She and my cousin, Angela (Executive Director of T&F) were college friends and Angela suggested we meet since she did not know many people in the area at the time.
To this day, Tamika and I still reminisce about the pre-GPS days of us roaming the streets of Washington, DC because we had no clue as to where we were going! We became fast friends immediately and I am glad that our friendship remains to this day.
Knowing my friend will always be affected by cancer can be pretty overwhelming at times. There are things that she has been through and things she will continue to go through that I cannot even imagine having to deal with at our age. Adopting Tamika’s philosophy of looking at the glass half full helps me to focus on the positives that have come out of her tragedy. First and foremost, I thank God for sparing Tamika’s life. I am also thankful for the many people I have met and for the work I am helping to contribute as a part of this great organization.
